I believe the language of VR filmmaking will develop very quickly.
Certainly, it will develop significantly faster than the time it took for the language of cinema to be “spoken”.
From the point motion pictures were invented around 1891, it took almost 20 years before D.W. Griffith would make full use of the close-up and parallel story development (cross-cutting between two story lines for suspense). His 1911 film The Lonedale Operator used both of these techniques very effectively for the first time.
I don’t think the language of VR will take that long to mature.
We as human-beings are now so well versed in the grammar and language of visual communication that I feel it will be a matter of a just few short years before an entire complex cine-spheric storytelling language is in the zeitgeist.
Will you be one of the people helping to develop it? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
