While there was much to see and experience this weekend at the virtual reality conference VRLA, the VR experience Where Thoughts Go was the highpoint for me. It was worth the entire price of admission and then some. Here in the midst of VR zombies, virtual-gun experiences where I can kill my opponent and laser light was a VR experience that delivers on the true promise of VR as an empathy machine and a way to feel the to the deeper underlying connection we all share.
It’s the first VR experience I’ve done, that I’d like to wrap up in a bow and give to everyone I know.
“Uncover the dreams, experiences and fears of others… and leave yours behind for others to find.”
The premise is simple. Five worlds. Five questions. In each world, you are presented with a question, floating around you are thought-creatures. By touching these light-creatures you awaken them and hear anonymous individual random audio-answers left by those who have already taken the journey. After a while, you are invited to leave your own answer for those who come after you.
The experience is never the same, and in many ways is actually alive as it grows and changes with each person who travels through it.
The entire experience builds to the profound and awakening ending, and you can’t help be changed by the experience. I am still thinking about it and know I will continue to for the days, weeks and months to come.
